Great question, Emily! Feeling overwhelmed is common when we are looking to start a new training plan. What's important is to not allow this feeling to halt our motivation. A key focus in goal setting is not only setting a long term goal, but breaking up into short term, achievable goals. This is a great way to stay motivated and keep track of progress. Ask yourself "What can I do now?" For instance, if your long term goal is to compete in a triathlon next year think of how to break it down. How is my running currently? Am I starting from the beginning: walking for 10 minutes/ running for 5 minutes and building from there? Am I an avid runner with the next step of increasing distance? Once you break it down you can look towards your next steps and goals: biking, swimming, etc.
If you are looking for assistance with a personal trainer which is a great way to stay on track and keep motivated, you can email me at karen@dakinefitness.com and we can set something up! Let me know if you have more questions or need more details!

Hi Karen,

I also watched the ironman and was inspired with all the athletes. I would love to start training but am feeling a little overwhelemed with where to begin. Any ideas?

Thanks!
